I DID IT. I made this creepy red wine pasta that’s been sweeping the world wide net! In honor of Trump getting elected, I wanted to make a pasta that reflected the TEARS OF BLOOD I HAVE BEEN CRYING. After an application process that’s taken over 4 years and $$$ I finally got my US green card and will be moving to Los Angeles in the new year. Right in time for monster mans inauguration. LUCKY ME.


Because drinking red wine isn’t enough to numb the pain, why not inject it into you pasta? I did not make up this delicious dish, but I put my own twist on it.  It’s the perfect way to use up a bottle of wine that’s been open for a few days and it’s an even better excuse to crack another bottle! There are many recipes online for red wine pasta, but here is mine.

Julia’s Red Wine Pasta


3/4 bottle of wine that you have laying around. doesn’t have to be fancy stuff!
1/4 cup red wine (I added an extra splash cuz i’m fancy)
a bunch of water (about 4 cups)
1 package spaghetti
4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
handful fresh parsley, chopped
generous nub of better
glug of olive oil
fresh grated parmesan (as much as you want!)
red pepper flakes (optional)
salt and pepper


Bring 3/4 bottle of wine and water to a boil in a large pot. Add pasta. Cook al dente according to box instructions. Reserve 1/4 cup of the boiling liquid. Drain pasta.

In a large frying pan add glug of olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes and stir for 2 minutes over medium heat. Add 1/4 cup wine, 1/4 cup boiling liquid and some of the parsley. Let simmer for a minute. Add pasta and nub of butter. Stir until everything is melted and combined. Serve immediately and top with extra parsley and a generous amount of freshly grated parm. Twist of pepper, sprinkle of salt and that’s it! Pour yourself a glass of red wine and enjoy.


I really loved how simple this was. The wine flavour was not overpowering but very rich and luscious. It adds a full bodied sweetness to the pasta and the fresh parsley and salty cheese really make it sing. I had leftovers and when I re-heated it the next day I added another glug of red wine and more butter and it was even better! This is a dish that is very easy to make but can look super impressive. Again, if the idea of using a whole bottle of wine on pasta makes you cringe, make this dish after you host a party and have opened bottles of wine you need to get rid of. But if you think about it, you can buy a $10 bottle of wine, spend $3 on pasta, $8 on a good hunk of parm, $2 on parsley and still be able to feed 4 people for under 25 bucks. Not too shabby!

Don’t like garlic? Use shallots. Don’t like parmesan? Use goat cheese. Can’t eat wheat? Use rice pasta! Don’t like wine? Don’t make this! You’re the commander of your own delicious ship.


So go ahead, make these funky purple noodles and feel good about all the antioxidants you’re eating 😉
